Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president, and also holds the title of most powerful female officer in American history. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017, and also as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. National attention was gained for her sharp questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
